Azerbaijan’s MFA: "Contract of the Century" established international cooperation in the Caspian Sea

“Signing "Contract of the Century" is one of the greatest events of modern Azerbaijan history”, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov during his speech in the IX International Caspian Energy Forum, APA reports.

He noted that new oil strategy played significant role in changing scene of Azerbaijan, region, and the world.

““Contract of the Century” established international cooperation in the Caspian Sea. It was one the main features of the Contract. Large transnational companies joined the Contract and it started international dialogue in its turn”, stressed the Minister.

Kh. Khalafov said ecological issues were not paid attention in Soviet ruling and it led to ecological crisis in the Caspian basin: “However the nation, possesses Caspian resources, began to get profit from them itself for the first time with “the Contract of the Century”. Above all, ecological issues have been started to be especially reviewed."
