French Ambassador to Azerbaijan: “Jacques Chirac was Azerbaijan’s friend”

A book of condolences has been opened in the French Embassy to Azerbaijan related to the death of former French President Jacques Chirac, APA reports.

French Embassy to Azerbaijan has lowered France's state flag due to death of former President.

French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zacharie Gross noted that he was impressed of attendance of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva to the Embassy today: “The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have visited Embassy and expressed condolences on the death of former President Chirac today. Yesterday Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent a letter of condolence to French President Emmanuel Macron on behalf of himself and Azerbaijani nation. I extended my gratitude to Mr. President for the letter of condolence in accordance with the instruction of President Emmanuel Macron”, stressed the Ambassador.

Z. Gross noted that Jacques Chirac was friend of Azerbaijan: “Jacques Chirac did his best to promote peace in difficult times. Jacques Chirac gave importance to the security and stability of Azerbaijan.”

The ambassador reminded that Jacques Chirac had been awarded “Heydar Aliyev” Order.

Note that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First lady Mehriban Aliyeva have visited Frenc Embassy in Azerbaijan on September 27, and have extended their condolences on the death of ex-French President and signed a book of condolences.

Remind that Former French President Jacques Chirac aged 86 died yesterday. Jacques Chirac headed France in 1995-2007.
