The soldier who planted the flag of Azerbaijan on Leletepe in April 2016 has spoken to ONA.

Asim Aliyev, the soldier who first planted the Azerbaijani tricolor on Leletepe during the April victory, says he took the flag with himself when he was ordered to take over the Leletepe hill, which was under Armenian occupation, the Karabakh bureau of ONA reports.

When the Azerbaijani Army captured the hill, Asim Aliyev attached the Azerbaijani flag to a concrete pillar that he buried with fellow soldiers.

“I always carry the flag of Azerbaijan with me. The enemy did not plant its flag on Leletepe, because they knew that land is not theirs. For this reason, they did not fly their flags there. My biggest wish is to plant the Azerbaijani flag on other occupied territories of Azerbaijan,” said soldier A. Aliyev.
