Azerbaijani FM expressed protest against the Russian ambassador in connection with the "Lazarev Club"

On March 7, Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikhail Bocharnikov, by his own request, ONA reports citing press service of Azerbaijani MFA.

The sides exchanged view on several issues of bilateral cooperation, including issues in the field of developing cooperation in the field of economic-commerce, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, as well as continuing of successful multilateral cooperation.

Ambassador M. Bocharnikov, on behalf of his leadership, invited Minister Elmar Mamedyarov to a regular meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CIS countries, which is planned to be held on April 5 this year in Moscow.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov thanked for the invitation. The Foreign Minister stressed the strategic nature of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia and the role of the Russian Federation as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group in the process of resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Minister noted that the participation of Russian officials at the regular meeting of the Lazarev Club, held in Moscow on March 5-6 with the participation of representatives of the separatist regime created in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, caused protest from the Azerbaijani side.

E. Mammadyarov also noted that Azerbaijan expressed dissatisfaction with Russia about inviting representatives of the separatist regime to the first meeting of the club in Yerevan at the end of last year, as well as about provocative speeches against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan voiced at that meeting. In this regard, it was stressed that such cases contradict the legal framework defining the foundations of Azerbaijan-Russia bilateral relations.

During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on the processes taking place in the region and the world and other issues of mutual interest.
