The 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council kicked off on June 18.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein made speech about the situation of the global human rights at the 38th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva – the last session before his four-year term expires in August.

In his speech, the High Commissioner criticized the current situation of human rights in a number of countries around the world and named the states that hesitate to cooperate with the Office headed by him and the UN special rapporteurs.

Zeyd al-Hussein also listed 19 countries that openly and actively cooperate with the UN special rapporteurs on human rights, and give a positive response to appeals in connection with their visits. Over the past five years, these countries have hosted more than five special rapporteurs on human rights.

It’s estimable that, Azerbaijan is also among those countries, which include US, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, Chile, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Honduras, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Ukraine.

In June last year, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights at the opening of the 35th session of the Human Rights Council noted that Azerbaijan is among the countries that submit their report to the UN human rights structures on time.
