On May 18, 2023, 11 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan detained in camps located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic were repatriated to our country, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.

Eight of the repatriates are children and three are women.

The location, identity, and citizenship of the repatriates were first determined as a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and then measures were taken to ensure their transition to the territory of the Republic of Türkiye.

The repatriates were subjected to initial medical and psychological examinations by representatives of the relevant state institutions responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria sent to the Republic of Türkiye.

Later, as a result of the relevant coordination work carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye, our citizens were provided with return certificates and flight tickets to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take necessary measures for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflict on the territory of foreign countries.
