16 Azerbaijani citizens were repatriated from Syria

On November 24, 2022, 16 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan detained in camps located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic were repatriated to our country, said the Press Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The repatriates, 13 of whom are children and 3 of whom are women, were brought to our country as a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. After determining their location, identity and citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, transit through the territory of the Republic of Turkiye was achieved.

Representatives of the relevant state institutions responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were sent to the Republic of Turkiye, and preliminary medical and psychological examination of the repatriates was ensured.

Our citizens were provided with "Certificates of return to the Republic of Azerbaijan" and flight tickets by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Turkiye. On November 24, 2022, the mentioned citizens were repatriated to our country accompanied by a delegation.

It is planned to take all necessary measures for the reintegration and rehabilitation of the relevant persons by the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Noted that a total of 409 citizens, including 380 children and 29 women, have been repatriated to Azerbaijan from Iraq and Syria.
