On March 5, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Secretary of State for Foreign Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Portugal Francisco Andre within the framework of his participation in the fifth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.

The current situation and development potential of relations between the two countries were discussed at the meeting.

It was stated that Azerbaijan and Portugal are exploring prospects for collaboration in the fields of economy and trade, as well as energy, with the objective of developing renewable energy resources. The important role of our country in ensuring Europe's energy security was especially emphasized.

During the meeting, it was also pointed out that friendship and cooperation relations between our countries are not limited to the bilateral level, mutual support is also continued within the framework of international organizations.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told the other party about the post-conflict situation in the region, the peace-building steps of our country, the restoration and construction works in the liberated areas, and the current mine threat. In addition, emphasizing that the freed areas have been declared green energy zones, the minister spoke about cooperation with the European Union in the field of alternative energy.

Despite Azerbaijan's peace-building efforts, it has been brought to attention that Armenia does not stop provocations, does not withdraw its armed forces from our territories contrary to its obligations, and continues to make mine threats.

In turn, the other side stressed that Portugal is interested in expanding cooperation with our country in all directions and that they are ready to work together with the Azerbaijani side in this regard.

The sides also exchanged views on other topics of mutual interest.
