# 17 January 2023 21:20 (UTC +04:00)

On January 17, 2023, a phone conversation was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, APA reports citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the phone conversation, current issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia, including the current situation around the Lachin road, were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed that it is the legitimate right of Azerbaijani citizens to protest against illegal economic activities, including the exploitation of natural resources and abuse of the Lachin road, in the territories of Azerbaijan where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is stationed. In this regard, he pointed out that it is necessary to fulfill the rightful demands of the protesters.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that the claims about the closure of the Lachin road by Azerbaijan, the blockade of Armenian residents living in the territories of Azerbaijan, and the creation of a humanitarian crisis are groundless. In this regard, it was emphasized that dozens of vehicles, cars of the peacekeeping contingent, International Red Cross Committee, and Armenian ambulances pass through Lachin road every day, which refutes the baseless claims of the Armenian side.

At the same time, it was stated that it is unacceptable that people who present themselves as "representatives" of Armenian residents living in the territories of Azerbaijan prevent the population from using the road and thereby artificially create the impression of a "blockade" and a "humanitarian crisis."

During the phone conversation, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
