Letter from Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov on continued illegal military activities of Armenia, including the planting of mines on the territory of Azerbaijan, was circulated as UNGA and UNSC documents, Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) posted on Twitter, APA reports.

The letter drew attention to the pollution of Azerbaijan’s liberated areas with mines and other unexploded ordnances, it was noted that it creates a serious threat.

It was stressed that engineering fortification units of Azerbaijan revealed 1,318 anti-personnel mines in the Lachin region alone, on August 15-22 and it shows how large-scale this threat is.

The letter also notes that contrary to the relevant provision of the tripartite statement signed on November 10, 2020, Armenia did not withdraw its illegal military units from Azerbaijani territories, and did not suspend military activity.

On the contrary, Armenia continues to form new combat positions in the territories of Azerbaijan where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, conducts reinforcement works, and plants new mines.

The letter has also drawn attention to restoration and reconstruction works carried out by Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that planting new mines by Armenians in Azerbaijani territories, poses a serious threat to the establishment of peace in the region and Azerbaijan’s reconstruction efforts. In this regard, Armenia's war crimes should be stopped and Armenia should be punished.
