An international conference on "Along the Middle Corridor: Geopolitics, Security and Economy" was held under the joint organization of ADA University and the Center for the Analysis of International Relations, APA reports.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov addressed the event.

Minister said that the international relations system is undergoing significant transformation.

According to him, in order to achieve stability, security, and prosperity, it is important to focus on the agenda of mutually beneficial cooperation instead of the mentality of geopolitical competition.

"After the 44-day Patriotic War, in the post-conflict period, despite the presence of several challenges in the region, new opportunities have emerged for cooperation and the establishment of sustainable peace. Despite the heavy consequences of the 30-year occupation, Azerbaijan is taking important steps to advance the peace agenda. However, Armenia's non-fulfillment of its obligations and continuous provocations undermine the process," the Foreign Minister noted.

Jeyhun Bayramov said that today, Azerbaijan is carrying out large-scale reconstruction and construction works in the territories freed from occupation.

"One of the most important factors hindering the work done in this direction is the existing mine threat. As stipulated in the Tripartite Statement dated November 10, 2020, Armenia has not fully withdrawn its armed forces from the territories of Azerbaijan and continues various military activities, including the placement of mines, in the territories of Azerbaijan," he noted.

"There is a serious need for the support of the international community to put pressure on Armenia and find a solution to the problem. Current events in the region and the world prove the necessity of increasing cooperation in combating the current challenges. As one of the main transit countries along the International East-West Middle Corridor, it is one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan to ensure the security and reliability of transit operations against the background of events that continue to create the risk of disruption of the supply chain," Jeyhun Bayramov added.

According to him, cooperation in the field of energy security is of great importance for Azerbaijan as one of the foundations of strengthening connections.

"Cooperation in the field of energy security is of great importance for Azerbaijan, as one of the foundations of strengthening ties. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union on July 18, 2022 includes a number of components of energy security, including modernization of energy infrastructure, expansion of cooperation in the development of alternative energy sources. Strengthening efforts in the field of electricity production is also among the priority areas," added the senior diplomat of Azerbaijan.

The minister said that in terms of strengthening regional communication, various tripartite formats help to expand relations in the region and eliminate existing conflicts, and serve as an important stage for the further development of strategic relations based on mutual interests.

"Azerbaijan is taking practical steps in the direction of opening communications in the region in accordance with the relevant clause of the Tripartite Statement dated November 10, 2020. In this regard, it is necessary to fulfill obligations on the opening of the Zangezur corridor. This can make an important contribution to the use of the full potential of the region, as well as to the peace-building process," said Jeyhun Bayramov.

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov then answered the questions of the conference participants.

Representatives of Turkiye, USA, Belgium, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, France, Georgia, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia think tanks are participating in the event, which will continue until November 26 in Baku and Agdam.
