On September 19, 2023, within the framework of the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary General of the OSCE Helga Schmid, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OSCE, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed.
Informing about the current situation in the region, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that the peace agenda, initiated by the Azerbaijani side and which great efforts were made to advance, is under serious threat today as a result of the military and political provocations committed by Armenia.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that contrary to the Tripartite declaration, Armenia's escalation of military and political provocations over the past three years, Prime Minister of Armenia congratulating the puppet regime, and the terrorist attacks resulting in the loss of civilian and military lives on September 19 have further escalated tensions in the region. It was highlighted that the operations carried out by Azerbaijan are directed against illegal armed groups, with no civilians targeted.
It is noted that the behavior and statements of the Armenian leadership, which undermine the nature of previous statements regarding the recognition of our territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the campaign of disinformation based on false claims of a supposed "humanitarian crisis" and "blockade" in the region aimed at misleading the international community, have dealt a blow to the peace process.
In this regard, it was pointed out that it is important for the international community to emphasize not such false claims, but the withdrawal of the illegal Armenian armed groups, which are the main threat to peace and security in the region, and the dismantling of the illegal regime created by Armenia.
During the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
