Azerbaijani MFA announces progress of cases against Armenia in international courts

“Steps have started to be taken against Armenia at the international legal level,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Elnir Mammadov at the event on November 8- Victory Day, APA reports.

Deputy Minister reminded that Azerbaijan filed first lawsuit against Armenia in the European Court in January 2021. According to him, this lawsuit reflected Armenia’s military crimes in the First and Second Karabakh wars, and a second complaint was filed in June 2021, the subject of which is related to mines: “Another complaint was filed regarding the continuation of landmine case, and these two complaints will be combined and considered together. Currently, the case is in the procedure stage. The possibility of the lawsuit will be considered.”

E. Mammadov brought to attention that in the summer months, the court sent a request to both parties, and the answer to this request will be sent in the next few days: “Once possibility issue finds its solution, the case will be considered in the court accordingly. In September of last year, Azerbaijan filed a case on racial discrimination at the International Court of Justice. It submitted solicitation on taking urgent measures against Armenia. The solicitation submitted in September 2021 presented all facts and the court adopted its first decision in this regard, an obligation was imposed on Armenia. Nonsensical claims were made by Armenia against Azerbaijan. Armenia tried to put pressure on Azerbaijan on international platforms by calling the members of the provocative group, who entered the territory of Azerbaijan without permission, as prisoners of war. Azerbaijan presented its position with facts at the hearings in this regard. In December 2021, one of these solicitations of Armenia was canceled. Armenia also appealed to the court regarding the closure of the Military Trophy Park. Azerbaijan justified its position in this regard and the court supporting Azerbaijan’s position, rejected these solicitations.”
