Azerbaijani MFA: International partners are positive about proposal to establish checkpoints on Lachin road

A proposal to establish border checkpoints on the Lachin road, which Mr. President specially mentioned at the Munich Security Conference, to take serious steps towards building trust between the two countries, as well as to ensure the use of this road in a completely transparent manner in accordance with the goals and objectives of the trilateral statement, said Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov at a briefing, regarding the decision of the ICJ on the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, held on February 22, 2023, APA reports.

“The conclusion we had from the initial contacts is that international partners are positive about this proposal and understand its essence. The position regarding the transparent use of the Lachin road and the prevention of misuse by Armenia over the past 2 years is quite understandable. Unfortunately, the initial opinion given by Armenia to this proposal was quite negative. We believe that Armenia is again interested in illegally using the corridor contrary to the tripartite statement," the deputy minister noted.
