Azerbaijani MFA spokesman responds to Mirzoyan

"One of the first threats to Europe’s security was the military aggression and occupation of almost 20% of sovereign territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia," the head of the press service of Azerbaijani MFA Aykhan Hajizada wrote on Twitter as a response to Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan's views, APA reports.

"Ararat Mirzoyan disseminates false narrative. Seems that FM needs some history lessons: One of the first threats to Europe’s security was the military aggression and occupation of almost 20% of sovereign territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia. Armenia still occupies 8 villages, almost 95 sq.km territories of Azerbaijan, not withdrawn 10.000 Armenian armed forces from the territories of Azerbaijan. Armenia refrains from opening up unimpeded communication on its territory in violation of Trilateral Statement.

Detainees that Armenian FM refers to are criminals, sent to Azerbaijan by Armenia 2 weeks after the Trilateral Statement. International courts denied Armenia-requested measures to release them. On contrary, Armenia still does not provide information on 3800 missing persons.

Armenia ethnically cleansed around 1 million Azerbaijanis from Armenia and Azerbaijani territories, and still prevents the secure and dignified return of refugees and IDPs. Armenia must stop aggressive rhetoric that undermines peace-building efforts in the region," added the spokesman.
