Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov has met with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk within the framework of 52nd Session of the Human Rights Council, the Ministry told APA.
The current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN in the field of human rights, the current regional situation, as well as the issues surrounding the Lachin road, were discussed during the meeting.
Deputy Minister stressed with satisfaction the existence of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN in various fields, including the protection of human rights. In this regard, it was stated that there are prospects for further expansion of cooperation.
Elnur Mammadov also underlined that Azerbaijan's efforts at peace face Armenia's continuous political-military provocations. In this regard, in order to overshadow the legitimate peaceful protest of Azerbaijani civil society representatives around the Lachin road, Armenia's demonstration of the untruthful position that Azerbaijan has allegedly blockaded its Armenian residents and that a "humanitarian crisis" situation has arisen in the region is calculated to mislead the international community. It was highlighted that Azerbaijan is ready to ensure Armenian residents living in the region, like all citizens of the Republic.
