Chair of the Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova thanked Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Hungary Lezsák Sándor for his participation in the National Leader Heydar Aliyev Centenary sitting of the Azerbaijani Parliament as they have met, APA reports.

Mrs Gafarova broached the unparalleled services of Heydar Aliyev, the founder and architect of the modern, independent Azerbaijani State, to our statehood and our people.

Azerbaijan and Hungary are friendly states whose diplomatic relations had turned 30 years in 2022. The bilateral political, economic, humanitarian and other co-operation resting on mutual trust and support has been progressing throughout those three decades and has reached the level of strategic partnership. Besides, our countries have energetic interaction in the political, economic, energy, transport, agricultural, educational and other fields under way.

High level visits and meetings play an exceptional role in the development of our bilateral relations. In particular, Mrs Gafarova emphasised the importance of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's latest official visit to Hungary on 30 January this year and the joint declaration on deepening strategic partnership signed during that visit.

The significant part Azerbaijan plays in maintaining the energy security of Europe in general and of Hungary in particular was underscored as well.

Then, the conversation revolved round close the co-operation and mutual support in international and regional organisations. It was said that high-level contacts between the two parties were also maintained by their legislatures. As she was recalling fondly her official visit to Hungary in 2021, Sahiba Gafarova shared her impressions of it and of the conversations she had had during it. The national delegations of our parliaments collaborate fruitfully within the PACE, the OSCE PA, the NATO PA, the Euronest PA and other inter-parliamentary organisations, it was added.

Mrs Gafarova also touched on the humanitarian and educational co-operation between Azerbaijan and Hungary.

Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Hungary Lezsák Sándor thanked for the invitation to the special National Leader Heydar Aliyev Centenary sitting of the Milli Majlis, the generous hospitality extended to him and the high organisational standards set by that special sitting. In addition, Mr Lezsák lauded the global endeavours of the Azerbaijani nation’s great son Heydar Aliyev and the connexions between our amicable countries.

Other matters of concern to both sides were discussed as well as the meeting went on.
