"I am delighted to announce that the UK Government has allocated an additional £ 500,000 to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to support mine clearance in the region," British Ambassador to Azerbaijan James Sharp wrote on Twitter, APA reports.

The ambassador noted that the region is one of the most polluted areas in the world with mines and unexploded ordnance: "And most importantly, the latest allocated funding will provide ANAMA with important training and expert advice to help ensure territorial security, prevent injuries and save lives. Now, the support provided by the UK for demining the region stands at more than £ 1 million. My embassy also supports the agenda on women, peace, and security. And we believe that our support will also focus on gender issues in mine action in Azerbaijan, including helping to establish a women's demining team in the near future.”
