British Minister: Khojaly is a tragic episode in Azerbaijan's history and Britain strongly condemned this at the time

British Minister for Europe and North America Leo Docherty responded to the written questions of British parliamentarian Bob Blackman and Afzal Khan in connection with the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, APA's British bureau reports.

The events of February 1992 were a tragic episode in the history of Azerbaijan and were sharply condemned by the British government at the time.

"Such hostilities must not happen again. The British ambassador to Azerbaijan laid a wreath in front of the monument in Baku on February 24," noted the Minister.

He noted the need for constructive negotiations between the two countries was emphasized in the last talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on February 22 and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia on January 18.

The Minister noted that the British Government is committed to supporting the efforts in order to ensure positive relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and continues its activity through bilateral channels and multilateral forums in order to achieve this goal.
