"We see that cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Azerbaijan has intensified and deepened," said the head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko, APA reports.

He recalled the visits of the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, EU Council President Charles Michel to Azerbaijan, as well as the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Brussels.

"Progress is observed in certain areas of our cooperation. The EU and Azerbaijan are negotiating an agreement. The EU has presented an Economic and Investment Plan for Azerbaijan. Under this plan, 2 billion euros have been allocated for Azerbaijan. I want to mention that our cooperation in trade, economic, and energy spheres is expanding.

The EU is Azerbaijan’s key partner in the field of trade and economy, 51% of Azerbaijan’s export goes to the European market,” stressed the diplomat.

Mihalko also spoke about cooperation in the energy field. According to him, the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Southern Gas Corridor was attended by two commissioners of the European Commission, which is a sample of the EU’s attention to Azerbaijan: “South Gas corridor is a successful project that we have jointly created and cooperation in this field should be further expanded. EU is interested in this.”

The ambassador brought to attention that the President of the EU Council Charles Michele shows efforts in the restoration of peace in the region: “We want the restoration of peace, stability in the region. EU provides financial assistance for demining in the liberated areas. It is implemented by means of UNDP.”
