Farid Shafiyev: "Peacekeepers' remaining depends on future of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations"

"Not having results in the 28 years of peace talks, the rejection of the Madrid Principles by the Pashinyan government in March 2020 led to the war," said the Chairman of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), Farid Shafiyev while delivering a speech at the session held by the "Balance of power in the South Caucasus after the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war" of the Rondeli Security Conference held in Tbilisi in Georgia, APA's local bureau reports.

He noted that as a result of Armenia's aggressive policy in 1988-1989, Armenian territories, as well as Karabakh, which Armenia has occupied, have been cleared of ethnic Azerbaijanis.

F.Safiyev noted that the main condition for strengthening peace and stability between the three countries of the South Caucasus is Armenia's renunciation of territorial claims

Expert recalling that the security of the European Union is based on territorial integrity said that the Sochi and Brussels meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders is promising.

He noted regarding Russia's participation in the processes said that Moscow has been always an important actor in the region and will be like that also in the future. In terms of this, It is not right to expect official Moscow to be left out of the process.

F.Safiyev noted that the Russian peacekeepers have been placed in the Azerbaijani territory for 5 years and their remaining depends on the future of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
