"France and the European Union has an interest in supporting peace in the South Caucasus," said Zacharie Gross, Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan at the event held on the transfer of the presidency to the Council of the European Union (EU) to his country, APA reports.

He noted that secular, sovereign, and independent Azerbaijan is in the interest of both the EU and France: " Trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijani President and Armenian Prime Minister with the President of the European Union (EU) Council Charles Michel and French President Emmanuel Macron in December of the previous year in Brussels was a historical event. After these meetings and the successful Eastern Partnership summit, a constructive dialogue has continued. Visit of the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar and Isabelle Dumont, Advisor to the French President's Cabinet to the region is a clear sample for this. Azerbaijan and Armenia have entered a post-conflict period in 2021, and I am optimistic that in 2022 these two countries will be able to move from a post-conflict period to a period of peace negotiations and lasting peace will be established in the region".
