Azerbaijan's strategy is that the war is over and we must achieve peace, but unfortunately, the Armenian side is taking steps in the direction of losing the peace, Assistant to President of Azerbaijan-Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said as he was interviewed by i24NEWS TV channel of Israel, APA reports.
He stressed that the Azerbaijani side does not want to give a chance to lose the peace and offered peace to Armenia.
“Azerbaijan offered Armenia to sign the peace agreement which in diplomatic circles is sometimes compared to the Camp David Accords process between Egypt and Israel. These negotiations have changed the map of the Middle East. We support this process with the United States and other countries, and at the same time, we remind the process of reintegration of Garabagh into the economic, political and social life of Azerbaijan, which is another layer of this process."
Hikmat Hajiyev noted that a separatist entity that’s Armenia’s subordinate and at the same time financed and supported by this country is trying to maintain the status of "gray zones" in those areas.
He pointed out the advantages of opening of the Aghdam-Khankandi road.
“We’re saying that a road is good, but two roads are better. Azerbaijan is building new roads and this gives the Armenian residents of Garabagh the opportunity to establish communication with other parts of Azerbaijan. So, the conversation is about two roads. The Lachin road mainly allows communication between Armenia and Garabagh, but we’re saying that there’s another road-the Aghdam-Khankandi road as well. This road is more efficient and has more opportunities in terms of logistics and transportation. At the same time, this road provides direct access to all markets of Azerbaijan and the markets of neighboring countries. In this case, the Armenian residents of Garabagh will have a chance to establish better communication both within Azerbaijan and regional countries. So, this is also an opportunity for reintegration.”
The presidential assistant said that Armenia and the separatist organization financed by it are blocking the opening of the road.
"Armenia says that they want to have a "grey zone" and to have their military units in these areas. They have an illegal military group of 10,000 in the area. They threaten the civilian population of Azerbaijan with rockets and other military weapons. They have already had such an experience. But everyone should understand that the sovereign Azerbaijan, a country, can no longer accept having a "we zone" with a military group and armed forces, and a separatist entity at the same time. This is the source of the problem. It is a pity that we see a new wave of stereotypes and a media and disinformation campaign against Azerbaijan," Hikmat Hajiyev underlined.
