Hikmet Hajiyev informed NATO officials about establishment of checkpoint on border with Armenia

Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev visited the NATO headquarters on May 2, 2023, the Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to NATO said, APA reports.

The visit coincided with the 29th anniversary of the signing of the Partnership for Peace Framework Document, which forms the basis of the Azerbaijan-NATO partnership.

Within the framework of the visit, Hajiyev took part in a political dialogue in the "NATO+Azerbaijan" format with the participation of the allied countries at the NATO headquarters. He also held a bilateral meeting with David Cutler, NATO Secretary General's Assistant for Intelligence and Security Affairs.

During the meetings, H. Hajiyev discussed the current situation and prospects of the Azerbaijan-NATO partnership, as well as regional issues. He informed the participants about the steps taken towards the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the restoration and construction works carried out in liberated territories, the mine problem, the establishment of a checkpoint on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border and other issues of mutual interest. The parties exchanged views on Azerbaijan's important role in transportation and energy supply.

NATO member states emphasized that Azerbaijan is a reliable and important partner country. The allied states appreciated Azerbaijan's active participation in the The Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme, the Alliance's contributions to international peacekeeping operations, especially its support for the Afghanistan mission, the progress achieved in the field of increasing mutual operational coordination and defense reforms. Azerbaijan's contributions to Europe's energy security were highly appreciated by the participants of the meeting.

Within the framework of the 100th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, Hikmet Hajiyev participated in the opening ceremony of the memorial-photo stand reflecting Heydar Aliyev's invaluable contributions to the development of NATO-Azerbaijani relations.
