Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan commented on participation of Iranian athletes in races held in Azerbaijan's Khankendi

"Regarding the participation of several people who introduced themselves as an Iranian citizen in the battle races in the Khankendi city of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 28, 2021, We would like to note that MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) non-traditional martial art is not officially recognized in the Islamic Republic of Iran because of the violence, as well as because it has to do with gambling and is among the games that were prohibited," noted in the statement of the press department of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku, Azerbaijan regarding the special sport races held in the Khankendi city of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

“Therefore, this sports type does not have any federation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Those who deal with this field operate secretly or illegally.

The participants of the competition held in the Khankandi city of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 28, have nothing to do with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Iran and they participate illegally in competitions in any place of the world.

The embassy once again stresses that there is no link between the participation of these persons in illegal competitions held in Khankandi and the policy of the Ministry of Sports and Youth of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the statement reads.
