Leyla Abdullayeva, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, commented on the speech of the French Foreign Minister in the National Assembly, APA reports.

L. Abdullayeva said: "We regret to note that French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian made a statement unworthy of a diplomat in the National Assembly on January 18 this year. Thus, Eric Siotti, a member of the National Assembly from the Republican Party, who tried to insult the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for provocative purposes, should have been severely reprimanded and punished. Minister Lo Drian said that the views expressed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Valérie Pécresse's visit to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan were "unacceptable in form and content."

The statement of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the illegal visit of Valérie Pécresse to Azerbaijan is completely logical and correct.

The irresponsible and unacceptable interpretation of the statement of the President of another country by Minister Le Drian contradicts diplomatic traditions. Unfortunately, the foreign minister of a country with great statehood traditions, such as France, does not understand this.

The statement of President Ilham Aliyev on the illegal visit of Valérie Pécresse, Michel Barnier and Bruno Retailleau to the territories of Azerbaijan is completely legitimate; This is an adequate response to those who violate the laws of Azerbaijan. Pécresse's candidacy for the French presidency does not give him the privilege of overcoming the laws of Azerbaijan. He must be accepted as any other foreign citizen. We remind that when foreign citizens illegally enter the territory of Azerbaijan, appropriate measures are taken against them, either administratively or in accordance with the Criminal Code of the country. If a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan violated French law and entered French territory illegally, adequate measures would be taken against him.

At the same time, we would like to say that it is no secret that the French government is on the side of the occupying Armenia during the 44-day war and beyond. Both chambers of the French National Assembly have adopted documents calling for the recognition of the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic", which is not even recognized by Armenia.
We would like to note that the messages given by the opposite side during the meeting between President Macron and President Ilham Aliyev at the initiative of the French President on December 15, 2021 contradict the statement of French Foreign Minister Le Drian and do not serve to normalize Azerbaijani-French relations. .
At the same time, we would like to emphasize that if the representative of France or other countries illegally visits the territories of Azerbaijan recognized by the international community, Azerbaijan will take the necessary steps within its Constitution and relevant legislation.
