Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN, Yashar Aliyev met with the representatives of the overseas territories of France in his capacity as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, APA reports.
The representatives who were the participants of the "Decolonization: Peaceful Revolution" Conference organized by the Baku Initiative Group on September 22 at the UN headquarters in New York highly appreciated the steps and measures taken by Azerbaijan as the head of the Non-Aligned Movement in the fight against French colonialism.
The participants said that they were encouraged by the fact that their voices were already heard in the UN tribunes and that they appreciated the activity of the Baku Initiative Group, the organizer of the conference.
During the meeting activities of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization (C24), the possibilities of establishing cooperation between the overseas territories and the committee were also discussed, the need to increase attention to the colonial policy of France in the regional events regularly organized by C24, and to use all possible platforms to communicate the problems of overseas territories to the world community was noted.
