Azerbaijan is an important partner and ally of Russia in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region. Relations between our countries are developing in the spirit of the traditions of friendship and good neighborliness. Daily joint work is based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov before his working visit to Azerbaijan, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

It was noted that currently more than 150 international legal acts have been signed between the two countries: "The signing of the Declaration on Allied Interaction between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan at the highest level on February 22 in Moscow was a significant event in relations between the two countries. This document envisages strengthening the coordination of foreign policy and military-political cooperation, joining efforts in the fight against international terrorism, building economic cooperation and expanding dialogue in the humanitarian sphere. On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (April 4), the rise of Russian-Azerbaijani relations to a qualitatively new level is very symbolic. At the end of 2021, the trade turnover will be $ 3.4 billion (an increase of 16.1% compared to 2020), Russia's exports will be $ 2.3 billion (an increase of 12%), imports will be $ 1 billion (an increase of 26.8%). %), amounted to $ 478.5 million for January-February this year (an increase of 10.2% compared to the same period last year)."

"Trade and economic relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are strengthening," he said.

It was noted that the Action Plan for the development of key areas of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation until 2024 is being consistently implemented, including six road maps (trade, transport infrastructure, high-tech industries, economic efficiency, tourism, cooperation, innovative development, and digital technologies. in the field).

"The 20th-anniversary meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan, held in Baku on April 25-26 this year, was very successful.

The importance of Russian-Azerbaijani interregional cooperation is growing. More than 70 subjects of the Russian Federation are involved in this work. 18 of them have signed agreements on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Russian-Azerbaijani interregional forums have traditionally made an important contribution to joint work in this area. The 11th forum is expected to be held in Baku this year. The practice of holding them will continue," he said.
