"The activeness of Russia and Iran in the South Caucasus is worrying," said Karen Donfried, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told about this to the Armenian service of Voice of America, APA reports citing News.am.
According to her, the Russian “peacekeepers” stationed in Karabakh do not play a constructive role, and Iran is actively trying to expand its political, security, and economic role in the South Caucasus.
These concerns have increased over the last year due to Russia's war in Ukraine, noted Donfried, stressing that the activeness of Russia and Iran in the South Caucasus should give even greater urgency to the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process.
