Chair of the Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova has had a conversation with Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mostafa Kamal Madbouly in the course of her current official visit to that country, APA reports citing the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.
Mr Madbouly followed his heartfelt greetings to the head of the Azerbaijani parliament by pointing out the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations back in 1992 and our ties’ having expanding steadily over the years since. Egyptian President el-Sisi’s visit to Azerbaijan last month will open up even greater opportunities for co-operation in a number of areas, in the opinion of the Egyptian PM. The Egyptian-Azerbaijani dialogue is at an appropriate level, while there are good prospects for economic co-operation, particularly in the industrial sector and agriculture, Mr Madbouly continued.
It was emphasised that Azerbaijan, an active participant of various international organisations, also played a prominent role in the Non-Aligned Movement. Mr Madbouly highlighted the significance of international co-operation and added that Egypt was advocating a peace arrangement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The interaction between the legislatures helps deepen the relations of our countries, which is why Egypt deems the ties in this field really rather important. Definitely, the current visit on the part of the Milli Majlis is going to contribute importantly to on-going expansion of the co-operation between our legislative assemblies, according to Mr Madbouly.
Sahiba Gafarova said her thanks for the hospitality and witnessed satisfaction with the current advance of the two-way relations as well as stressed the momentousness of reciprocal visits and meetings of the heads of the two states in the growth context of our ties. In this regard, she mentioned the official visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Egypt in 2007 and that of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Azerbaijan only a few days ago. At their talks in Baku, Mrs Gafarova remarked, the leaders of the two countries expressed and secured solidarity with respect to future progress of the Azerbaijani-Egyptian relations.
The legal and contractual framework binding our countries is sufficiently rich, and there is good potential for continuing to expand economic co-operation and trade; new areas of co-operation can be added to traditional ones, in the opinion of Sahiba Gafarova.
As she then turned to the topic of the inter-parliamentary connexions’ material role in the context of the relationship, the Chair of the Milli Majlis pointed at their sound level currently before underlining the matching importance of bilateral co-operation and of joint efforts of our parliamentarians in international organisations. That interaction is useful for addressing the present-day challenges within the existing geopolitical environment.
Mr Madbouly was then informed of Azerbaijan’s progress and international initiatives, the deliverance of our lands from Armenian occupation consequent to the 2020 Patriotic War and the subsequent large-scale work done to restore those provinces. Armenia had pillaged and razed to the ground all our towns, plundered and laid to waste our provinces and annihilated all the historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan during the occupation. The whole infrastructure of those parts had been demolished. None the less, it was Azerbaijan that initiated a normalisation with Armenia and offered it the signing of a peace treaty on the basis of five principles of international law. Sadly, Armenia remains subversive at the conversations; this is not an independent country that would have and pursue independent domestic and foreign political courses.
Speaker Gafarova stressed that inking a peace pact was necessary for Armenia itself above any other party concerned.
The conversation continued; the two legislature leaders were exchanging views upon other matters of shared concern.
