State Department comments on the prospect of an Azerbaijan-Armenia peace treaty

"The meeting of Azerbaijan's and Armenia's foreign ministers can help to build trust and confidence between the two countries," said Ned Price, U.S State Department spokesman at a press conference, APA reports.

"Both sides have stated that they will work together and continue relations. In the current situation, this is a positive step.The parties have agreed to meet for discussion in the coming weeks, and we believe that this process will help build trust between the parties. We will support this process as much as we can," Price said.

In response to a query on the prospect of the parties signing a peace treaty by the end of this year, a US State Department spokesperson said that this is a decision to be made by Azerbaijan and Armenia: "We will do our best for the parties to make progress towards sustainable peace," he added.
