“We strongly condemn and reject the statement by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on September 2, 2023, which once again proves the ongoing claims against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and serves to promote separatism in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan,"the statement by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry says, APA reports.

"This statement by the Prime Minister of Armenia contradicts the statement he made some time ago expressing support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including the Garabagh region, and seriously undermines the ongoing peace process.

This unacceptable behavior of a country that does not give up its groundless claims against the territories of Azerbaijan, which exists in the historical and international legal framework, falsification of history, grossly violates the principles of international law, and does not draw conclusions from the deplorable situation it is in due to its policy of aggression, should be prevented.

It is evident that the adventure described as the unilateral secession of Nagorno-Karabakh without Azerbaijan's permission was against Soviet laws, and this was confirmed at the supreme constitutional level even then. Armenia, which refers to the right to self-determination, knows to everyone that the fake "independence referendum" held by separatists in Karabakh on December 10, 1991 was held without the consent of Azerbaijan, of which the autonomous province is legally a constituent, and without the participation of the Azerbaijani population of this region.

It is known to everyone that referring to the right to self-determination, a fake "independence referendum" was held by Armenian separatists in Garabagh on December 10, 1991, without the consent of Azerbaijan, of which the autonomous region is legally part, and without the participation of the Azerbaijani population of this region.

It is obvious that Armenia's claims regarding the gaining of the "independence" of “Nagorno-Karabakh” contradict the principle of uti possidetis adopted in international law, and therefore are completely groundless within the framework of international law.

The fact that the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan has been under military occupation by the Armenian armed forces for nearly 30 years, the fundamental rights of up to one million Azerbaijanis have been violated, and the Armenian side’s silence over the facts of genocide and mass killings against Azerbaijanis shows that this country failed to learn from history.

These and other facts, the baseless and destructive position of Armenia, the decisions of international organizations have repeatedly confirmed Armenia's aggressive policy over the course of many years. Although Azerbaijan has shown strategic patience to resolve the conflict through negotiations for decades, Armenia has always opposed Azerbaijan's good intentions to resolve the conflict peacefully.

We restored international justice and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, which broke out in response to the next military provocation by Armenia, which did not give up its policy of aggression.

Against the background of the new realities that have emerged in the region, the destructive behavior demonstrated by Armenia not only does it have no prospects, on the contrary, this position drags Armenia into misery.

Attempts to make any claims against the territories of Azerbaijan and to incite aggressive separatist tendencies in our territories will be resolutely prevented and responded to accordingly," the statement by the ministry emphasizes.
