3890 Azerbaijani citizens registered as missing person according to results of I Karabakh war

“All of our citizens, became a victim of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the issue regarding missing persons have always been at the focus of attention of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev,” Eldar Samadov, Deputy Head of the Working Group of the State Commission on Captives, Missing and Hostages, said in an interview with AZERTAC, APA reports.

He said that according to the results of the first Karabakh war, 3890 Azerbaijani citizens were recorded as missing person in the State Commission: “State Commission continues all necessary measures in the direction of search of all of our missing citizens.”

E. Samadov noted this work is also conducted together with relevant international organizations: “According to the frame agreement signed between Delegation of the ICRC in Azerbaijan and State Commission on “Gathering Ante Mortem information and centralized database management of those missing during the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”, this work is conducted more intensive in recent years. Within the framework of the agreements, more than 3,600 questionnaires on the missing people have been gathered, information has been included in electronic database. Another important work, which is necessary, is about taking biological samples (DNA) from families of the missing persons. About 3,000 biological samples have been gathered and relevantly documented over the recent years.”
