# 10 February 2021 15:53 (UTC +04:00)

On February 8, 2020, in the Caspian Sea, the smoke started emitting from the cargo ship “Turkestan” belonging to the National Shipping Company “Kazmortransflot”, APA reports citing ASCO.

The members of the “Turkestan” crew turned to other ships sailing nearby for help. The seamen of the vessel “Mercury-1”, owned by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping CJSC (ASCO), alerted the fire safety system and responded to the signal. However, due to the prompt intervention of the “Turkestan” crew, the smoke condition had already been prevented.

After, the National Shipping Company “Kazmortransflot” asked ASCO to transport the vessel “Turkestan” to the shore. ASCO’s towing vessel “Yarenga” was immediately dispatched to the scene.

On February 10, with the help of the vessel “Yarenga”, the ship “Turkestan” was safely towed to the shore.

It should be noted that there was no cargo on board at the time of the accident. The crew members feel good.
