Terms of reference to be prepared for creation of research nuclear reactor in Azerbaijan

The preparation of terms of reference and other necessary documents for creation of research nuclear reactor in Azerbaijan will be completed during the upcoming 2 years, the head of the National Nuclear Researches Center Adil Garibov told "APA-Economics".

He said after preparation of the documents, they will be submitted by the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies of Azerbaijan to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.

"This project is implemented jointly by the National Nuclear Researches Center and the International Atomic Energy Agency. In parallel, we are conducting works in the area of training of specialists. Currently about 15 our specialists pass training in the area of nuclear physics and nuclear reactor physics. Several of them operate the research nuclear reactor in Dubna (a scientific township in Moscow oblast – editor’s note). I suppose that after adoption of decision by the government, we will be ready on all fronts. The research nuclear reactor is surely necessary for the country, but the amount of funds to be invested in its creation is also quite considerable. This amount approximately equals to about AZN 500 mln.", A. Garibov noted.

The head of the center also added that a place has already been allocated for the research nuclear reactor and after adoption of the positive decision, the works for creation of such reactor will be started.
