Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL) will suspend direct flights from Baku to New York by October of this year, ONA reports citing AZAL.

Due to problems in US aviation industry market, national air carrier could not increase its plane park this year.

Airlines Company decided to keep the most profitable directions in the route network. Flights in these directions will create opportunities to utilize Heydar Aliyev International Airport as an transit hub and involve large tourist streams to Azerbaijan.

“Taking into consideration above mentioned facts, we have decided to suspend flights to New York by the October 2019. At the same time, it should be noted that Open Skies aviation agreement has been on power between Azerbaijan and USA since 2016. This agreement facilitates to carry out unlimited number of flights between airlines companies of two countries. We hope that US airlines companies will use this opportunity and open direct flights to Azerbaijan”, said in the statement.
