Azerbaijan sees increase in freight and passenger traffic last year

Last year, freight traffic in Azerbaijan increased by 2.8% compared to the previous year, while passenger traffic by 3.1%, the State Statistics Committee told APA-Economics.

193.9 mln. tons of cargo were transported by economic entities operating in the transport sector.. 2.8% of the cargo was transported by sea, 7.8% by rail, 0.3% by air, 58% by road and 31.1% by pipeline.

According to the information, the volume of cargo transported by vehicles belonging to the private sector increased by 2.6%, the share of this sector in the total volume of transported cargo was 78.4%.

"Transporters served 1214.2 million passengers in 2021. 92.2% of passengers were transported by road, 7.4% by metro and the rest by other types of transport,” the report reads.
