"Necessary measures are being taken to accelerate the pace of construction in order to increase the capacity of transport of goods on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line," Azerbaijan Railways JSC told APA-Economics.
Azerbaijan Railways JSC has engaged new contractors to speed up the repair-restoration, reconstruction and construction works of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line passing through Georgia, with a length of 183 km and a complex geographical relief, and to complete the project in a short period of time.
Noted that the start of repair and restoration works in the Marabda-Kartsakhi area of the mentioned railway line, which was initially put into use in 2017, passing through a mountainous and forested area with difficult relief, is a measure implemented in terms of improving the health of the road infrastructure, increasing its capacity and traffic safety. The ongoing work will play an important role in getting more cargo from China and Central Asia and transporting to Europe.
Thus, the faster transport of goods from Asia to Europe through Azerbaijan with a one-stop operation further highlights the significance of the BTK in the regional transport network.
The lines are currently fully electrified, the construction of the railway line is mostly completed, electricity supply, communication and signaling devices, administrative buildings for station employees, and modern auxiliary communication works are being completed at 12 stations.
For completing the relevant completion works on the above-mentioned project in a short time, the transport of goods on the road has been temporarily restricted since middle of May, 2023.
