“The Azerbaijan Railways almost had not a locomotive park when I was appointed to here. 10-12 years old electric locomotives and diesel locomotives had been purchased. Repaired locomotives, which had been used for 20-30 years in Russia, were being purchased. We started to check the park. We found that if this continues, we’ll have 123 wagons by 2023, others will be out of service. Communication system was very weak. The machinists were contacting one another by phones. Seventy percent of wood beams on the railway were useless. In a word, everything had problems. However, we worked hardly and overcame these problems”, Gurbanov said.
He added that he wants to ensure transparency in eth OJSC: “We have already eliminated shortcomings in purchase of goods. Road junctions were bought for AZN 29,000 but registered at AZN 56,000. We have tightened control to eliminate this. No goods may be brought without tender”.
