The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded on Thursday to Abdulrazak Gurnah for “his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”. APA reports citing Neü York Times.

The prize, which is for a writer’s entire body of work, is regarded as literature’s most prestigious. Past recipients of the award, first given out in 1901, have included the novelist Toni Morrison, the playwright Samuel Beckett and the singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.
