Chinese ambassador to the United States, Qin Gang, was sworn in on Friday as the country's new foreign minister, replacing the outgoing Wang Yi. Qin, who served as the vice minister of foreign affairs before his latest post, APA reports citing Reuters.
Throughout his career, Gang has held various diplomatic positions, including serving as China's ambassador to the United Kingdom and Australia. He has also participated in multiple international organizations, such as the United Nations.
Gang's appointment as a foreign minister comes at a time of heightened tensions between China and the United States and as Beijing continues to ease its strict zero-COVID policy. The outgoing minister, Wang Yi, has served in the post since 2012.
