China is ready to join Russia and North Korea in efforts to facilitate the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said at a briefing on Wednesday, ONA reports citing TASS.

"China and Russia maintain close contacts on the Korean Peninsula issue. The two countries have done much together in order to ensure peace and stability in the region," he said, commenting on the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. "Thanks to the joint efforts of China and Russia, a roadmap has been created to resolve the situation on the Peninsula through political means. The situation has improved and we are ready to facilitate denuclearization efforts together with other interested parties, including Russia," Geng Shuang added.

He pointed out that Beijing had friendly relations with Moscow and Pyongyang so it viewed their steps to boost cooperation positively.

"We are confident that the meeting will facilitate efforts to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman noted.

Note that Kim Jong-un arrived in Russia’s Far Eastern city of Vladivostok on Wednesday. His talks with the Russian president are scheduled to take place on April 25.
