President of the European Council Donald Tusk calls on EU countries to help France to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral, ONA reports official website of European Council.

"I would like to say words of comfort and solidarity with the French nation, also as citizen of Gdańsk, 90% destroyed and burnt, later rebuilt. You will also rebuild your cathedral! From Strasbourg, French capital of the EU, I call on all 28 States to take part in this task," Mr.Tusk said.

"I know that France could do it alone, but at stake here is something more than just material help. The burning of the Notre Dame Cathedral has made again us aware that we are bounding by something more important and more profound than treaties," Tusk said at the meeting of European Parliament on the special European Council meeting of 10 April 2019.

Recall that the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris caught fire on late Monday. The top part of the spire and the clock of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral have collapsed as a result of the fire. The cause is not yet clear, but officials say that it could be linked to renovation work.

The Paris prosecutor's office said it has opened an inquiry into "accidental destruction by fire."

“The worst has been avoided, but the battle isn’t fully won yet,” French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement outside of the cathedral. He also expressed his sympathies to Catholics around the world, the people of Paris and the people of France.

“We will rebuild the cathedral together,” Macron said, adding that France will start an international fundraising campaign to raise money for the renovations.
