Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has said on Monday that the EU stands in full solidarity with Ukraine, by supporting its sovereignty, and territorial integrity, ONA reports referring to the official website of the European Council.
She said that after illegal annexation of Crimea, past five years have brought systematic restrictions of fundamental freedoms and violations of the rights of Crimean Tatars.
The EU official emphasized the importance of investigation of human rights violations in the region and having of the international human rights actors free and unrestricted access to the peninsular.
Mogherini said that the increasing militarization of Crimean Sevastopol over the period has had negative impacts on the security situation in the whole Black Sea region, mentioning the tensions at the Kerch strait in November as a consequence of illegal annexation. She added that the EU expects Russia to release the captured Ukrainian crew members and vessels unconditionally and without further delay.
"We will continue to implement our non-recognition policy of the illegal annexation. Our firm believe is that Crimea is Ukraine," she said.
