American and Taliban officials are meeting on Wednesday in Qatar to resume talks aimed at ending a 17-year war in Afghanistan, a Taliban official said, ONAreports citing Reuters.

“We are expecting the meeting to start in the next two hours as the U.S. delegation has already arrived,” said Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban. The sixth round of talks will be led by U.S. special envoy for peace in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad in the Qatari capital Doha. The U.S. delegation will focus on a declaration of a ceasefire to pave the way to an end to fighting, said a western diplomat who is closely monitoring the talks.

But the Taliban’s demands will focus on firstly the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country.
