The United States will be withdrawing its signature from the Arms Trade Treaty, President Donald Trump has said, noting that he would ask the Senate to discontinue the treaty ratification process, ONA reports citing Sputnik.
Trump announced the decision at a speech in Indianapolis to National Rifle Association, a powerful pro-gun lobby.
The US signed on to the international treaty in 2013, but never ratified it amid opposition from gun rights activists.
The Arms Trade Treaty formally seeks to regulate the global conventional arms trade, monitoring exports to ensure that they don't cross arms embargoes or make their way into the hands of human rights abusers or terrorists.
