Azerbaijan ceases analogue broadcasting in Baku, Absheron Peninsula

Baku – APA. On November 1, 2016, Azerbaijan’s National Television Radio Council (NTRC) began to apply digital broadcasting in the country’s Baku city and the Absheron Peninsula.

A total of 14 TV transmitters available for analogue broadcasting in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula were switched off, Isa Mammadov, head of NTRC technical department, told APA.

From December 1, 2016 on, NTRC will begin analogue switch-off in the country’s districts.

On September 20, 2016, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order approving the State Program on the “National Strategy for Information Society Development in Azerbaijan” on 2016-2020.

In accordance with the Action Plan on the implementation of the State Program, NTRC decided to cease analogue terrestrial broadcasting in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula by November 1, 2016 and in the country’s districts starting by December 1, 2016.
