Analogue broadcasting ceased in 32 districts of Azerbaijan on Dec. 10, Isa Mammadov, an official of the National Television and Radio Council (NTRC), told APA on Dec. 14.
He noted that the analogue switch-off caused no discontent among the population of the districts.
According to the NTRC official, the survey conducted in 30 districts of Azerbaijan indicates that 74 percent of respondents prefer satellite broadcasting.
“I have previously mentioned this fact. Terrestrial broadcast is used by 7.4 percent of population, most of whom use analogue-to-digital receivers. Most of LCD and plasma TVs, especially produced after 2010, are of analogue-and-digital type,” he added.
On 1 November 2016, Azerbaijan’s National Television Radio Council (NTRC) began to apply digital broadcasting in the country’s Baku city and the Absheron Peninsula. Analogue broadcasting was ceased in Shamakhi, Gobustan, Siyazan, Shabran, Khizi, Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz on December 1 and in Aghsu, Ismayilli, Kurdamir, Zardab, Saatli, Sabirabad, Agjabedi, Aghdam, Ujar, Ganja, Samukh, Dashkasan, Gadabay, Goygol, Shamkir, Aghstafa, Gazakh, Tovuz, Terter, Naftalan, Barda, Goranboy, Mingachevir, Yevlakh, Agdash, Goychay, Gabala, Oghuz, Shaki, Zagatala, Balakan, Gakh on 10 December 2016. In the third stage analogue switch-off will be carried out in Shirvan, Salyan, Neftchala, Hajigabul, Imishli, Beylagan, Fuzuli, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Lankaran, Masalli, Yardimli, Lerik, Astara from 20 December 2016 on.
