Baku. Farid Mirzayev – APA. “Since broadcast and cable televisions are regulated, why not regulate Internet television too?! If European countries adopt an optimal option, we too will support it,” Nushiravan Maharramli, chairman of Azerbaijan’s National Television and Radio Council, told APA.

He said the issue has long been discussed.

“Television operates the same way, be it via the Internet, broadcast, or satellite. This issue should be viewed not only for a commercial interest, but also as a separate area. The Internet has advantages and disadvantages. Generally, it’s important to regulate any means capable of influencing people’s minds. We’ve taken a careful approach to this issue for long, which is sometimes considered pressure on media and freedom of speech. But the world already understands that this is not pressure but people’s self-regulation,” he added.
