Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Azerbaijan is considering criminalizing offensive online activities by fake names or profiles.

In this regard, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov has presented to the parliament draft proposals on addition of Article 148-1 to the Criminal Code.

Under the new article, offensive online activities by fake names or profiles are fined by 1,000 up to 1,5000 manats or sentenced to 360 to 480 hours of community service or two years of correctional labor or one year in prison.

“In the time of advanced internet technologies, a number of people create fake profiles with fake names and use them to insult others. As can be seen, lack of regulations in this area and some gaps in the legislation has resulted in an increase in the number of such crimes. The adoption of this proposal will help prevent this kind of offences more efficiently,” said the prosecutor general.
